Understanding Sharing Relationships in Online Barter Markets

The rapid development of Internet and e-commerce technologies has led to the exponential growth of online markets in the past decade. Given that these markets are sustained by a community of buyers and sellers, an increasing number of studies have examined online buyer-seller exchange relationships. Whereas most of the existing research is focused on mechanisms to facilitate buyer-seller interactions (e.g., Ba and Pavlou 2002; Ba et al. 2003; Dellarocas 2003; Maslet and Penard 2012), very little is known about how market participants actually view transactions and establish the buyer-seller relationships.
